Temporary Fuel Pumps Ease MIA Woes

MIAMI --

Flights at Miami International Airport are back on schedule after a fuel farm fire last week caused several days of cancellations and delays.

A massive fire broke out Wednesday night at the airport's fuel farm, damaging underground fuel pumps that deliver fuel directly to terminals. The damage to the fueling system meant it took longer for planes to be fueled, and

dozens of flights were canceled or delayed

.

Traveler Diana Fraberga was worried she would miss her trip because of the fuel problems.

"My cousin couldn't get on a flight to Panama. It was mess. We are hoping to get on our flight," Fraberga said.

Two temporary pumps were installed in order to fuel the planes. As of noon, no flights had been canceled Wednesday due to the fuel delivery issues.

Four more pumps will be installed by the end of the week, which will allow the airport to operate at 80 percent fueling capacity.

Meanwhile, planes are refueling at other airports, which has alleviated some of the demands for fuel at MIA.
