Clark and NFLPA back AFGE in union election at TSA

PITTSBURGH, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh Steeler and National Football League Players Association player representative Ryan Clark on Wednesday will tell Transportation Security Officers in Pittsburgh to vote for the American Federation of Government Employees in an upcoming union election at TSA.

Only AFGE has been endorsed by the NFLPA in its effort to make TSA a fair, balanced and safe workplace, and to bring a collective voice to the TSA work force. Similarly, AFGE stands ready to support and assist the NFL players in their just cause against the illegal lockout by league owners.

AFGE is competing for exclusive union representation at TSA. While AFGE received the most votes and won the first union election, the margin determined a runoff would be held, which is scheduled for May 22-June 21.

TSOs in Pittsburgh are members of AFGE Local 332. AFGE is the only union to represent TSOs since the agency's inception, and currently has dues-paying members in 40 AFGE TSA Locals across the country. With more than 265,000 dues-paying members in more than 75 federal and D.C. government agencies, AFGE is the single largest federal employee union in the country.
