PR Newswire

PARIS, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PARIS AIR SHOW -- Pratt & Whitney will power up to 30 Bombardier CSeries®* aircraft based on a Letter of Intent (LOI) signed by Korean Air.  The LOI covers 10 firm and 10 option aircraft, as well as purchase rights for an additional 10. Up to 60 PW1500G series engines and two spare engines would power the aircraft.  Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:  UTX).

"Korean Air is a long-time, valued customer of Pratt & Whitney," said Todd Kallman, President, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines & Global Services. "We are honored that they will soon fly a next generation aircraft with Pratt & Whitney dependable PurePower engines."

Each Bombardier CSeries aircraft is powered by two PurePower PW1500G series engines.  The PurePower PW1000G series engines use an advanced gear system allowing the engine's fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core deliver double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency, environmental emissions and noise.

Korean Air, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is one of the world's top 20 airlines and is the top-ranked international cargo airline. The airline offers flights to 112 cities in 39 countries. It is a founding member of SkyTeam, the global airlines.
