Announcing Former Pan American Airways Employee Reunion in Miami, October 2011

PR Newswire

MIAMI, July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The worldwide family of former Pan American Airways employees, spouses and aviation aficionados will gather in Coconut Grove, Florida, October 20-23, 2011 for three special days of social events, meetings and tours. Attendees will be joining the city to celebrate the official Centennial of Aviation in Miami in 2011, and to honor the enormous part the airline played in shaping aviation history while also marking 20 years since the close of one of the country's most pioneering companies, Pan American World Airways.

Former employees from all over the globe and every division of the iconic company are expected to attend the Pan Am's Family Reunion. Scheduled during the reunion are numerous social events, a visit to the PAA memorabilia store at Pan Am Flight Academy near MIA, as well as tours of the special exhibit "Aviation in Miami: The First 100 Years" at HistoryMiami in downtown Miami. In addition, for the length of the reunion, exciting Pan Am theme inspired authors and speakers will be present at the host hotel; a private viewing of Dinner Key Terminal, now Miami City Hall, is also on the schedule.

Interest in "Pan Am" is at an all-time high. Coming this fall on the ABC network is the highly anticipated television series "Pan Am," the musical "Catch Me If You Can" is now running on Broadway, and the successful retail sales of retro travel accessories bearing the Pan Am name all add up to a positive "feel good" time.

Grounded for 20 years in December, "Pan Am is gone, but is not forgotten," said Mary Diorio, Director of Marketing for Pan Amigo Inc, a newsletter for former Pan American employees published since 1992 and one of the organizers of the reunion. Of special note is the signature event of the reunion: "The Hangar Party," to be held at the historic Coast Guard Hangar sitting on Biscayne Bay in Dinner Key, which the original Pan Am Clippers once called home during its pioneering days of aviation. The host hotel and co-sponsor of the three-day reunion is Courtyard Marriott - Coconut Grove.

Pan Am's Worldwide Family Reunion will be held in Miami, October 20-23, 2011.

About Pan Am

Pan American World Airways, commonly known as Pan Am, was the principal United States international air carrier from the late 1920s until December 4, 1991. Founded in 1927 as a scheduled air mail and passenger service operating between Key West, Florida and Havana, Cuba, the airline became a major company credited with many innovations that shaped the international airline industry, including the widespread use of jet aircraft, jumbo jets, and computerized reservation systems. Identified by its blue globe logo and the use of the word "Clipper" in aircraft names and call signs, the airline was a cultural icon of the 20th century and the unofficial flag carrier of the United States.
