CLEAR Voices Strong Support for TSA's Risk-Based Screening Pilot
"We strongly support TSA's vision to focus more on identifying bad people, not just finding bad objects," said J. Bennet Waters, President of CLEAR and a former senior official at TSA and the Department of Homeland Security.
CLEAR has biometrically verified more than 225,000 passengers at Denver International Airport and Orlando International Airport since November 2010. Negotiations are underway for additional CLEARlanes in other Category X airports across the country.
"The combination of government information and commercially available data provides a very powerful opportunity to assess a traveler's risk to aviation security," Waters said. "The challenge is in how to use both sets of data simultaneously without impacting travelers' privacy or requiring people to participate. CLEAR addresses this challenge.
"As Administrator Pistole moves forward with his vision for risk-based screening, I am more confident than ever about the need for private-public partnerships to develop innovative ways of combining commercial data with biometric technology to improve the speed and accuracy with which travelers are positively identified."
CLEAR is the nation's only biometric solution for airport security that uses cutting edge technology and commercial data, both to authenticate and verify a traveler's identity and validate that identity at each interaction. CLEAR is a voluntary program and offers an encrypted solution for identity verification.
Waters added, "We are committed to robust identity verification and look forward to continuing to work with TSA, airports and airlines in support of Administrator Pistole's vision for identity-driven, risk based screening."
