SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hosted nearly every year since 1981, Fleet Week provides an opportunity for the citizens of San Francisco to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team.
On Saturday, kicking off Fleet Week, Bank of America is proud to welcome the Parade of Ships. We are planning a terrific parade with 13 ships scheduled including an aircraft carrier, an amphibious assault ship and a guided missile destroyer and cruiser. Public visitation of many of the participating ships will be available for tours from Saturday afternoon through Monday.
In celebration of 100 years of Naval Aviation which has involved consistent innovation, Fleet Week's air show will include the ever popular and remarkable United States Navy Blue Angels. We are also pleased to welcome the Canadian Snowbirds who always put on an exciting demonstration. In addition, the air show will feature the Navy F-18 Super Hornet, USAF F-15 Strike Eagle, USMC V-22 Osprey, Sean D. Tucker and Team Oracle, a United Airlines Boeing 747 and The Patriots Jet Team.
A variety of family-oriented special events will be staged along the waterfront. The Marina Green will have an entertainment area featuring exhibits including one that will be showcasing Chevrolet's latest technologies. There will also be a military Humanitarian Relief Village showcasing what both our military and civilian response teams are doing to get themselves and the community ready in case of a disaster.
Aquatic Park, Fisherman's Wharf and PIER 39 will also have events and viewing areas.
The event will be live on the radio; listeners can tune into KSFO 560 on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is free; however, premium tickets are available with an unobstructed view. Visit www.fleetweek.us or call 650-599-5057
