Icelandair Takes Off From Denver
QUINCY, Mass., Sept. 14, 2011
QUINCY, Mass., Sept. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Icelandair, the flagship carrier of Iceland since 1937, will begin service from Denver next spring with four flights a week to Reykjavik, Iceland. Denver will become Icelandair's ninth North American gateway and on May 11, 2012, flight # 670 will commence service from Denver International Airport with non-stop flights to Reykjavik on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Through its hub in Iceland, Icelandair offers non-stop flights to over 20 destinations in Scandinavia, The U.K. and Continental Europe, with the fastest elapsed time to all the Scandinavian capitals.
"We were thrilled to choose Denver from a short-list of potential new gateway cities, as we feel it is a natural fit for Icelandair. Denverites will love the nature, lifestyle and culture of Iceland, while Icelanders will feel at home with the landscape, active lifestyle, and independent philosophy in Denver," said Birkir Holm Gudnasson, C.E.O of Icelandair.
Thorsteinn Egilsson, General Manager of Icelandair the Americas continued, "Savvy travelers of Denver will now have a fresh alternative when traveling to Europe. Icelandair is happy to enter this city with competitive airfares and convenient routes to Iceland and onward."
During the Sixties and Seventies, Icelandair was known as the "backpacker airline" and was the airline of choice for many college students because of its low fares and convenient flight paths. Today, Icelandair sports a new look, three cabins of service, leather seats throughout, personal in-flight entertainment centers for all passengers and is still recognized as a value airline, with the most convenient routes to Europe.
"We are elated to have been chosen as Icelandair's ninth North American market," said Kim Day, Aviation Manager for Denver International Airport. "As the fifth-busiest airport in the United States, Denver International Airport serves more than 160 destinations nonstop. Our airport is not only the gateway to the beautiful state of Colorado, but is also a strong U.S. hub, providing easy access to many points beyond Denver."
Denver International Airport is conveniently situated for serving the metropolitan area and will also act as a hub for the many domestic carriers that offer easy connections into Denver.
"I am looking forward to the relationship between the City of Denver and Icelandair, and to personally welcoming the first flight from Reykjavik," said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. "This flight will allow us to continue to bring new global opportunities to Colorado and to stimulate growth in our economy. It will also open our doors to new markets and allow our business and leisure travelers originating in Denver to enjoy an easy one-stop connection to Scandinavia, the U.K. and Europe."
To celebrate service from the Mile-High City, Icelandair is offering the Mile-High Getaway to Iceland starting from $679* per person
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a regular adventure seeker, travelers of this special will enjoy round-trip airfare, two nights hotel at the newly refurbished Icelandair Natura, early check-in with welcome breakfast on arrival, a Reykjanes Peninsula and Golden Circle Tour, highlighting Iceland's natural wonders, and a peek at the world famous Blue Lagoon.
