GSE Technology Continues to Evolve

Nov. 16, 2017
Autonomous technology is changing the way we look at ground support equipment.

Welcome to Ground Support Worldwide’s annual Product and Service Showcase. In the following pages, you’ll find a plethora of ground handling services and cutting edge ground support equipment, much of which was recently showcased at inter airport Europe 2017 in Munich, Germany.

As expected, the biennial show featured a tremendous amount of innovation focused on shaping the GSE industry. One feature that drastically stood out was the presence of autonomous equipment.

While self-driving vehicles may seem like a futuristic vision, the fact is, this technology is here now.

TLD and EasyMile demonstrated their self-driving tractor known as TractEasy. MULAG is testing a prototype of its self-propelled Comet 4E Autodrive vehicle. Timsan showcased a self-propelled ambulift, and Mallaghan had autonomous passenger stairs on display. What’s more, Vanderlande won an Innovation Award for their autonomous baggage handling system, FLEET, which utilizes automated guide vehicles. And these examples just scratch the surface of how this technology can be applied to ground support.

Whether autonomous GSE is a fit for your current operation or not, the emerging technology serves as a great reminder to be prepared for the future. Autonomous equipment is here, and more advanced technology will continue to be developed.
