Jet Zero Australia Pty Ltd and LanzaJet Inc. announce the commencement of engineering activities in Project Ulysses. This groundbreaking project is the most advanced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development project in the Australasian region, using the LanzaJet Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology.
Under a recently executed engineering agreement, LanzaJet and their engineering sub- contractor, Technip Energies (T.En), are providing Jet Zero Australia with engineering design services and technical services relating to early design definition engineering of the Project Ulysses ATJ unit. The engineering work, undertaken at LanzaJet offices near Chicago, Illinois; T.En offices in Milton Keynes, UK; and Jet Zero Australia’s offices in Brisbane, Australia, includes engineering design documentation for the ethanol dehydration, oligomerization, hydrogenation, fractionation sections, and associated equipment.
A Feb. 21 Jet Zero Australia news release said, "We are also pleased to announce the receipt of competitive tenders from major engineering and construction contractors for Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) execution and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) activities."
Jet Zero Australia is targeting completion of early design definition engineering and anticipating the award of the FEED contracts by mid-2024, positioning itself for the next phase of this transformative project.
Located in Australia’s North Queensland region, Project Ulysses aims to convert agricultural byproducts sourced from sustainable origins into an impressive 102 million liters of SAF and 11 million liters of renewable diesel annually.
The SAF produced at the facility has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 70% over the emissions life cycle compared to traditional fossil-based jet fuel.
Project Ulysses has received crucial support through investments from Airbus, Qantas, and grant support from the Queensland Government.
