Airlines' Ontime Performance Declines
Major airline flights arrived on time 83.9 percent of the time in September, or less often than their 85.1 percent record the year earlier, said a Bureau of Transportation Statistics report on Thursday.
US Airways, the busiest carrier at Pittsburgh International Airport, slid to 80.7 percent from 87.1 percent. Third-busiest Southwest Airlines dipped to 84.3 percent from 85.7.
But Delta Air Lines, the second-busiest here, soared to 88.0 percent from 81.5 percent. A flight is considered "on time" if it lands within 14 minutes of scheduled arrival.
Major carriers on average received slighly fewer bag complaints, with 2.81 complaints per 1,000 passengers in September, versus a 2.83 ratio the year before.
Delta's performance improved to a 2.03 ratio from 2.58. But Southwest slid to 3.17 from 2.77, and US Airways fell to 2.66 from 1.96.
