LONDON, HEATHROW, UK – AMETEK MRO Muirhead Avionics, a unit of AMETEK Aerospace & Defense, now has the full capability to bench check, repair and overhaul the RTA-4B Weather Radar Transmitter / Receiver from Honeywell International. The RTA-4B is used as part of Honeywell’s RDR-4B Forward Looking Windshear Detection Radar System. The RDR-4B radar system is a pilot-oriented tool and is an enhanced version of the RDR-4A, the industry-leading standard weather radar of its time.
The RTA-4B contains the electronics necessary to transmit, receive and process the radar pulses used to detect turbulence, windshear, weather and terrain. It interfaces the aircraft’s attitude reference for antenna stabilization and includes system integrity monitoring, self-test and fault memory circuits. With its predictive windshear capability, the RDR-4B system provides flight crews with advance warnings of wind conditions and both visual and audio windshear warnings, which are issued ten to 60 seconds before they are encountered.
