The Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), an Advanced Manufacturing Research Center, has elected Barry Eccleston, President of Airbus Americas, as their new Chairman. He replaces outgoing Chairman, Helmuth Ludwig, who will be taking on an expanded role at Siemens.
“I want to thank Helmuth Ludwig for his service as the Chairman of CCAM, and wish him the best as he undertakes additional responsibilities at Siemens,” said Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Todd Haymore. “I also want to welcome Barry Eccleston, President of Airbus Americas, as CCAM’s new Chairman. CCAM is an integral component of the Commonwealth’s overall economic development efforts. I know Barry will carry on the vital work performed there to promote advanced manufacturing throughout Virginia and he will be a great partner in Governor McAuliffe’s efforts to build the new Virginia economy.”
Will Powers, President and CEO of CCAM added, “We would like to thank Helmuth for spearheading significant initiatives at CCAM in regards to executive leadership, strategic positioning and in refining university and corporate member focus as well as collaboration with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Barry Eccleston stated, “I have been privileged to have been a member of the CCAM Board of Directors since 2014 and I look forward to undertaking my new role with this world class advanced manufacturing research center.”
Eccleston joined Airbus as President of Airbus Americas in 2005. Prior to Airbus, he was VP and General Manager for Honeywell’s Propulsion Systems business. He has held senior leadership positions with Fairchild Dornier Corporation, Rolls-Royce and International Aero Engines. Barry began his 29-year career at Rolls-Royce as a flight test engineer and rose through the ranks to become President and CEO of Rolls-Royce Canada and ultimately President and CEO of International Aero Engines, a multinational collaboration of leading aircraft engine manufacturers.
“Along with his extensive Aerospace experience Barry brings to CCAM his leadership skills which will help guide our 25 Industry Members, 5 University Members and our Government Member, NASA Langley, to further expand its advanced manufacturing research capabilities. CCAM, now in its sixth year of operations, currently has over 40 advanced manufacturing research projects underway,” said Will Powers.
Barry is currently Chairman of the British American Business Association. Additionally, he has served the aviation industry in many capacities including; Chairman of the Washington, DC branch of the RAeS, past President of The Wings Club, a former member of the Flight Safety Foundation Board of Governors, a member of the NBAA’s Advisory Council, and as a member of the Aero Club of Washington, DC.
