Flying Musicians Announce 2016 Solo Scholarship Award Program

Dec. 17, 2015

December 16, 2015: Fort Worth, TX: With the conclusion of a successful inaugural scholarship program, the Flying Musicians Association, in conjunction with corporate members and sponsors, has kicked off the 2016 FMA Solo Program. The 2016 FMA Solo Packet is available online.

Do you know a junior or senior in high school band, who has always wanted to learn to fly?  It’s time for students, band directors, and parents to hear that the Flying Musicians Association, along with corporate members and sponsors, will sponsor recipients through solo in their flight training.  Nominations from band directors are now being accepted.  FMA members will be there to mentor that student pilot in both aspirations -- in aviation and music. In addition, training material and gear will also be made available when possible.

Rich Chiappe, general manager at Sky-Tec (the makers of the FLYWEIGHT Starter) has agreed to sponsor one scholarship in 2016 after a successful 2015 program. Rich says, "Let's face it, without new pilot starts, the business of flying has no future. We should all be planting seeds - constantly."

Sporty’s Pilot Shop has agreed to again give all the finalists a free Learn to Fly course while MYGOFLIGHT has agree to give the winners a customized Flight Bag PLC Pro along with their popular tablet mounting hardware and case. FMA President/CEO John Zapp said, the FMA loves assisting others who share our passions of flying and music. Our first FMA Soloist, Drew Medina from Vero Beach, Florida, was extremely grateful. “I’m super thankful for everybody at FMA. I think it’s cool that a group like that exists and is willing to help a guy like me achieve a dream I’ve held for so long.” Zapp noted, "We are looking forward to hearing from more in the industry who want to jump on the FMA Bandwagon."
