SKYscapes coating system Product From Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings: SKYscapes, a new basecoat/clearcoat exterior paint system developed by Sherwin-Williams Aerospace, delivers faster processing time, more color and easier maintenance than similar products on the market. This allows aviation MRO facilities and their paint shops to augment production schedules and turnaround more paint jobs. The result is planes painted with SKYscapes can now get onto – and get out of - the shop and into air faster. The modified polyester topcoat is applied using an innovative basecoat-clearcoat process in which all colors are applied as a basecoat. After the basecoat dries, the entire surface of the aircraft is sprayed with a clearcoat finish. Color coat dry time is approximately two hours, compared to six to 10 hours for other systems. This allows shops to apply numerous colors in a single shift and move the aircraft more quickly through the painting cycle. The paint delivers consistent viscosity between toners and yields outstanding flow and leveling. The new paint system offers a longer recoat time of up to 72 hours, which means no sanding is required between coats. Less sanding means less time during the painting process. JetFlex® Interior Aircraft Finish Coating Product From Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings: Designed for use on commercial aircraft cabin and cockpit surfaces, Sherwin-Williams JetFlex interior aircraft finish applies easily to plastic, metal, and composite surfaces. The fast-drying finish is available in two technologies, a solvent-based polyurethane enamel and a water-reducible polyurethane dispersion coating. The easy-to-apply, quick-drying solvent-based product provides excellent adhesion to plastic and metal and has outstanding stain, abrasion and scratch resistance. It is qualified to the Boeing Material Specification BMS 10-83G, Type II and III, including flammability, yellowing resistance, and smoke-stain resistance requirements. It also meets the FAR/JAR 25.853 regulations for burn, smoke, and heat release. It is a low-VOC, water-reducible polyurethane dispersion formula that is free of chrome and lead hazards. AfterGlo photoluminescent paint Product From Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings: A new, "glow-in-the-dark" safety coating system is now available for the first time in the civilian aviation market. AfterGlo Photoluminescent Paint Kit AG110, a photoluminescent coating system, makes the tips of aircraft propeller blades and helicopter main and tail rotors visible in dark and low-light operations, increasing the awareness and safety of nearby personnel in hangars, airstrips, helipads and repair facilities. The coating system was developed under a U.S. Naval Air Systems Command contract as a joint development between Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings and Defense Holdings Inc. (DHi) for use on aircraft on Naval carriers. The AfterGlo coating system is applied to the tips of aircraft propeller blades, helicopter main and tail rotors, and other rotating objects to allow personnel to avoid injury by inadvertently coming into contact with them in low light situations. Components with the AfterGlo coating "charge" in the sunlight and deliver, in the dark, a steady, eight-hour glow that's visible from up to 40 feet. The three-part system also provides excellent hardness and impact resistance. It is typically applied using a HVLP gravity feed gun. DHi developed the special photoluminescent pigment for the three-part coating system, while Sherwin-Williams Aerospace developed the paint process and manufactured the product. The system includes a white polyurethane basecoat, followed by the photoluminescent (PL) layer topped with a clearcoat.
