More On 'What’s Going On Here?'

Our LinkedIn members share views on ground mishandling video.

We received plenty of comments on our LinkedIn group after we posted a video that made the news last week.

The video taken from a passenger aboard a plane at Guangzhou Airport showed a ramp worker loading boxes onto a conveyor seemingly oblivious that most of the freight was simply falling off the belt and onto the tarmac.

Here are some excerpts:

“It all falls back to not being held accountable. There is much airport equipment damaged because ramp agents are not held accountable. Without consequences in place, good or bad, performance is going to follow accordingly.”

“I have seen people comparatively well paid in Australian ports who behave in similar ways to what we are seeing here. Ultimately, it comes back to pride in the job and believing that any job should be well done. having said that, we all have ‘off’ days but we need to be better than this or have others pick us up and help us get it right.”

“Lack of management control this will always happen! Push back to the employee and make them responsible and remove this issue across the board.”

“Management can't be everywhere at once. Therefore the role of management is to foster in the workforce a feeling of worth. How much is this job worth? If the majority of contributors to LinkedIn were to be asked to do this job for a determined length of time they would probably say, "I wouldn't get out of bed for that". I was always told to not ask others to do things I was not prepared to do myself. Where would this leave the majority of managers today?”

By the way, our LinkedIn group continues to grow every week. We’ve doubled the membership over the past 12 months. You can join here.
