Electric GSE Funding

Speaker: Neal Wolfe, LeighFisher

Funding through the FAA’s Voluntary Airport Low Emission Program may be the well-proven method to invest in electric ground support equipment. However, VALE is not the only funding source available. Learn about other various state and local funding initiatives that ground support professionals and airlines can directly use to purchase electric GSE or use to augment an airport’s VALE project. Neal Wolfe is a senior consultant with LeighFisher, an international management consulting firm with specialized expertise in environmental and sustainability planning.

Electric GSE Buying Trends

Speakers: Steve Smith, Ground Support Worldwide; Brian Wemple, US Airways and Todd Allen, All Energy

Join Steve Smith, editor of Ground Support Worldwide, for a panel discussion on a 2013 survey of GSW readers on the decisions made to purchase electric ground support equipment and what the future plans are to add to electric GSE inventory around the United States. Our panel includes an airline’s perspective on the use of electric GSE on the ramp and a manufacturer’s take on the batteries to power electric GSE. Steve Smith is editor of Ground Support Worldwide and is veteran of trade publishing since 1990. Brian Wemple is manager, customer service support for US Airways/Piedmont Airlines and has been in the airline industry since 1999. Todd Allen is president of Allen Energy and brings unique battery and charger solutions to the GSE market.

Ground Support Leaders Awards

  • Ground Support Lifetime Achievement: This award goes “to the person who has demonstrated commitment to the industry through numerous years of dedicated service.”

Last year, we honored Bill Jacob, vice president, airline ground support equipment for UPS Airlines, who retired after spending 40 years in the GSE industry.

It was a new award in 2012 when we named Greg McDermott, chief warrant officer for United States Coast Guard, who spent 12 years overseeing a GSE inventory worth more than $500 million that supports 26 air stations and more than 200 aircraft.

  • Product/Service Award: This award “celebrates the product, service and manufacturer making a difference in the industry.”
