Further Recognition of Charles E. Taylor

July 12, 2012
Effort to place the name of aviation’s unsung hero on the Smithsonian Wall of Honor.

Located near the entrance to the Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport is a display appropriately called the Wall of Honor. The Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum Wall of Honor contains the names of people who have contributed to aviation and space exploration heritage.

In 2006 thanks to efforts of the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Association (AMTA), funds were raised for a bronze bust of Charles E. Taylor which was donated to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. In March of this year while visiting the museum, I was finally able see this bust appropriately placed among a display of yesteryear’s aircraft engines.

The AMTA is again working with the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, this time to secure a space on the Wall of Honor for the name of Charles E. Taylor. According to Ken MacTiernan, director of AMTA, “Having Charles E. Taylor's name inscribed on this Wall of Honor is a perfect complement to the bust and will help have Charlie permanently remembered by millions of visitors to this world class museum.”

Donations are being accepted to help place Charlie's name on the Wall of Honor. The deadline for submitting the application to the museum is July 31, 2012, so don’t delay! The cost for this initiative varies and the largest size lettering that raised funds provide will be purchased. Donate what you can; there is no minimum amount. The names of donors will be tracked on the AMTA Facebook web site "Friends of Charles E. Taylor."

To make a donation send a check made payable to the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association or AMTA to; Ken MacTiernan, Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association, 11772 Carmel Creek Road #107, San Diego, CA 92130. You can also use the PayPal link on www.amtausa.com. In either case, note that your donation is to be placed toward the Wall of Honor donation.

Thanks, Ron
