Here Comes The Govmint — Again

Jan. 18, 2012
Watch out, y’all, the guvmint is on the prowl

The Obama administration is pushing a $100 per-flight fee for all corporate and private turbine aircraft. They say such a fee will “raise $11 billion in the next ten years.” You reckon the guvmint will ever figure out that taking $1 from one group and giving it another group does not raise money?

These user fees—aimed at general aviation--pop up on a regular basis, and—so far—they have been defeated on a regular basis. This time, you gotta wonder.

This administration seems to love to take money away from successful people and corporations and to give it to those who aren’t successful yet feel that they are “entitled.”

We are, according to one source, some $51 billion in debt. Rather than look for ways to cut our bloated guvmintal budget, the administration seems to hunt for ways to take more away from those who produce successfully.

The temptation is to say, “Whew, sure I’m glad I don’t own a turbine aircraft. At least it won’t cost me anything.” The hell it won’t. These fees must be paid by the corporations that own/operate the aircraft. Those companies have but one source of money, that source being their customers. If they have to pay the fees, they must get the money from those customers. That means we—the customers—must pay them more for their goods/services.

We live in a world market now, and, according to the guvmint says it wants to keep jobs at home. The only real way to do that is by competing more strongly with foreign competitors. How can we do that when our guvmint demands so much more than other govmints around the world? In particular, how can our companies compete while being forced to support so many people who don’t produce? How can we be everything to everybody and still compete?

I worry about this.
