Happy Holidays

Dec. 21, 2010
As the end of the year approaches I thought I’d look back at some of my past blogs. I can’t recap all of them so here are a few highlights. I reported on attending several aviation trade shows. Both attendees and exhibitors expressed mixed comments on the state of the industry. Some segments of the industry reporting business was doing well and others not so well. Some segments have been affected much greater than others with very mixed conclusions. All reports are a slow recovery from the difficult economic times is ahead. In June I spoke about AMT Day and attending a local FBO picnic to celebrate. How many of you celebrated AMT Day? I also mention a few “Aviation Vets†I had the privilege to know, or the chance to talk with or meet. People who spent a lifetime devoted to aviation; my colleague Tom Hendershot of the AMTSociety is one of them as he was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame this year. During the summer we were tragically reminded of the importance in working safely after being rattled by two separate reports of aircraft technicians in the U.S. being killed in separate workplace accidents. Remember to always maintain your workplace situational awareness! There was plenty of airline news this year and more merger announcements, and the report of American Airlines closing the old TWA maintenance facility in Kansas City. My last blog related to an event having the potential to impact some aircraft technicians.  That was the French court ruling regarding the tragic Concorde accident of 10 years ago and the Continental Airlines technician. We may not know for some time if this court ruling will impact our profession. Let's look ahead to next year. What’s on the horizon next year for you? New tools, an FAA rating, education or graduation from school, a job, a different job, perhaps retirement? Let us hear what your aviation related plans are for next year. If you’re traveling this holiday season stay safe. Happy Holidays, Ron
