The Aviation Industry Expo and AMTSociety

March 11, 2010
Next week is the 2010 Aviation Industry Expo in Las Vegas Nevada. This year promises to be a great show. Over 250 exhibitors are scheduled to display their aviation related products and services. The important benefit of the AIE is the fact this is the only annual aviation event that is focused on different yet equally important and linked aspects of aviation; be it Ground Support, FBO/Aviation Services, Fueling, and Aircraft Maintenance. On the FBO and aviation services side, The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) will host the annual Spring Training Week in conjunction with the Aviation Industry Expo. A large variety of training sessions and general informational seminars will take place targeted at aviation services companies, FBO owners, managers, line service specialists and supervisors. Additionally, the AIE will be the annual gathering of the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Panel on Aviation Support Equipment (JPAVSE). On the aircraft maintenance side, the hard work of the AMTSociety needs to be recognized. Again this year, the AMTSociety will host the Golf Outing and AMTSociety Scholarship Fundraiser on Monday, March 15. The net proceeds collected from this event will go toward the AMTSociety Scholarship which is designed to assist aircraft technicians with their initial and continuing educational needs. The AMTSociety will also provide numerous maintenance related training sessions on Tuesday March 16 and Wednesday March 17. These sessions meet the requirement for Inspection Authorization renewal training. As of today over 130 maintenance professionals are registered to attend a variety of maintenance training classes. The AMTSociety will also host the Maintenance Skills Competition which will be held on Wednesday March 17. The AMT Society Maintenance Skills Competition was developed to give teams of aircraft technicians, maintenance students, and aircraft maintenance personnel from our country's Armed Forces, the opportunity to test their combined abilities against those of their peers. This is a fun competition that showcase’s the knowledge, skill and integrity of the aircraft maintenance professional. 25 teams are registered for this event. I realize that allot of this information is not new for those of you who regularly visit the AMT website or are members of the AMTSociety. What I feel is important to recognize are the tireless efforts of the largely volunteer group, the AMTSociety leadership, and their continued focus on the mission of the AMTSociety, which is to support the aircraft maintenance profession. On a separate but related note regarding the aircraft maintenance profession, I’d like to mention that on Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 the United States Air Force Academy accepted a bronze bust of Charles E. Taylor from the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association. Please visit the website news for the complete story. Thanks for reading, Ron
