Reflections on the show

March 1, 2011
This year Cygnus Aviation Expo included 227 exhibitors featuring a wide array of products for GSE, maintenance, and FBO professionals. The overall mood of the show was optimistic — an encouraging indication of the year to come for the industry.   Outside the trade show floor, many events brought individuals together. Among the show highlights included popular seminar topics on fuel cell technology and electric GSE, VALE funding, and human factors on the ramp.   The Ground Support Leaders of the Year was held as a luncheon on Thursday, Feb 25. Many attendees came in support of this year’s recipients:   Safety Leader of the Year: Don Redwine, Southwest Airlines Green Leader of the Year: Ryan Gibson, AeroVironment Engineer/Innovator of the Year: Gene Velazquez, One Mile Up Team Leader of the Year: Larry Laney, Southwest Airlines Lifetime Achievement: Patrick O’Brien, MCM Engineering   The networking event drew a sizeable crowd of exhibitors and attendees on the second day. In the anticipated Ford F-150 giveaway, the winner was Cordell Labrier, owner of Ideal Aviation.   For a full recap of the seminars, award recipients and much more, stay tuned for our March issue.
