Iris Smith's ever-growing enthusiasm for the aviation industry and her desire to continually learn have empowered her and are a key component to her success.
Smith joined Sheltair at the age of 21 as an air concierge while finishing her Bachelor’s degree at Florida International University with a degree in International Relations and a minor in Psychology, learning the ins and outs of aviation from the ground up.
In less than a year, Smith was promoted to executive assistant to the COO. Working directly with the ownership team, she assisted the organization with its rapid FBO and real estate expansion into key markets. Smith was instrumental in the RFPs for new locations and securing strategic accounts for fractional operators during her tenure.
Only three short years after her last promotion, Smith's proven ability to develop relationships assisted her in her next promotion to director of properties and leasing for FLL, Sheltair’s largest premier FBO/office complex. Smith was instrumental in pre-leasing a 55,000 hangar/office complex in 2009. Her latest endeavor over and above her operations and tenant responsibilities is pre-leasing Sheltair’s new premier westside development, which will double the campus in size.
Smith's experience on the FBO side of the business and the value she sees in teamwork has allowed her to work hand in hand with a first class FBO team in developing a strong international campus which focuses on the aviation customer.
