At the PAMA chili cook-off the AMT team won the award for best presentation for its Survivor theme.

Nearly 6,000 aviation professionals were in Las Vegas May 18-20 for Aviation Industry Week (AS3/GSE Expo), the show that includes the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) and National Air Transportation Association (NATA) annual conventions. The show floor was packed with activity as attendees saw the latest products and services available from nearly 500 exhibiting companies. Plenty of technical seminars and professional develoment courses rounded out the events.

The Honorable John J. Goglia, member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), gave the keynote address, discussing the recovery of the economy and the resulting changes that have taken place in the aviation industry.

Charles Taylor II, gave a presentation on his great grandfather that included family photos and memorabilia. Autographed posters commemorating Charles Taylor were available at AMT’s booth during the show.

A highlight of the PAMA events was the Professional Aviation Maintenance Olympics. The seven-event competition showcased the maintenance skills of the participating team members. Midcoast Aviation came in first, Delta TechOps second, and General Dynamics Aviation Services third. Other teams included Association of Women in Aviation Maintenance, Bombardier Learjet, and Dassault Falcon Jet. Other awards included the Troubleshooter of the Year, Vinnie Venditto, Midcoast Aviation, and TechnAthlete of the Year, Thomas McGinnis, Federal Mogul.

The PAMA chili cook-off raised $6,715 for the Professional Aviation Maintenance Foundation. Sponsors included ATP, AMT (Best Booth Presentation), Bombardier Business Aviation Systems (Questionable Contents Chili), Dassault Falcon Jet, Duncan Aviation, FlightSafety Intl., Gulftstream (Tasters Choice), Midcoast Aviation, and Professional Aircraft Accessories (Best Tasting Chili and Hottest Tasting Chili).

Next year’s event will be held March 8-10, 2005, at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas.
