Sept. 13, 2005
A roundup of recent facility upgrades at fixed base operations.

Signature-BOS
Orlando-based Signature Flight Support, the largest chain of FBOs, broke ground in August on its new executive terminal at Boston Logan International Airport. The 12,000-sq. ft. two-story facility features a private VIP Center with separate street and rampside entrances for use by dignitaries and floor-to-ceiling glass construction. The FBO will also house a 8,800-sq. ft. ground support repair shop. The new facility is scheduled to open in July 2006. Signature recently renegotiated its BOS leasehold through 2016.

FBO Avcenter - BTV
The FBO Avcenter at Burlington International Airport in Vermont recently opened its south hangar complex, comprising a 17,000-sq. ft. heated hangar and 12 T-hangars. The new corporate facility, which replaces a 7,000-sq. ft. hangar, has some 5,000 square feet of shop and office space. Parent company Avports operates FBO Avcenters at Pittsburgh International, Gulfport-Biloxi, and New Castle County Airport near Wilmington, DE, as well as the 34th Street Metroport, a heliport in Manhattan.

Mercury Air Center - LBG
Mercury Air Center this summer opened its new fixed base operation at Long Beach (CA) Daugherty Field. The complex features some 137,000 square feet of corporate hangar space as well as a full-service day spa, a gourmet deli, and a four-star Italian restaurant overlooking the airfield. Mercury Air Center is owned by the Mercury Air Group as a division of Mercury Fuels.
