Signature Flight Support is going ‘green’ with its facility renovations, evidenced by the grand opening of its new general aviation facility at Boston Logan Int’l Airport (BOS), with a two-story structure that occupies 13,000 square feet and incorporates a floor-to-ceiling glass pavilion that affords unobstructed airside views. The project is expected to be LEED-certified later this year as the first-ever “green” general aviation facility. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Other aspects of the project include a purpose-built security screening area, complete with a walk-through metal detector and x-ray machine for baggage, as well as a three-bay ground service equipment repair shop.

• Signature Flight Support is also constructing a new executive terminal at Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), incorporating angled “butterfly” roof forms and a curved “wing” roof element at the drop-off canopy. It will include natural lighting through clerestory glass, a heavily insulated building envelope, energy-efficient mechanical systems, and building materials with recycled content.
