Upon receiving the award, Nist said he was “speechless” and thanked his peers for the honor. Nist is the fleet manager of ground support equipment for US Airways.

Greg Nist, fleet manager of ground support equipment for US Airways was honored by the industry with the Ground Support Worldwide magazine Leader of the Year Award at a Luncheon Wednesday held during the 2007 Aviation Industry Expo in Orlando Fla.

Nist, who endured an entertaining roast by friend Norm Koskiesko of FMC, was a good sport. Upon receiving the award, Nist said he was “speechless” and thanked his peers for the honor.

Nist has worked for US Airways for the last 35 years and has admired the aviation industry since childhood. He grew up on the south side of Pittsburgh, just four miles from the Allegheny County Airport. Upon graduating high school, Nist entered the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics at the county airport and in 1979 became the technical supervisor for the small GSE department at the airport. Since his hiring, Nist has seen the trend of electronics and automated equipment in the GSE department continues to grow. Nist says watching the airline industry continue to redefine itself will challenge the GSE community to re-examine how it builds equipment, buys equipment, uses it and maintains it “to achieve the greatest dollar value we can deliver.”
