Koontz receives history award
Giacinta Bradley Koontz, our Past Contact! Mechanics in Aviation History contributor, has received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) History Award Medal. It is the first medal awarded this year and the 374th in DAR history. Last year the DAR awarded five medals.
“The Office of the Historian General has completed its review of the dossier your chapter submitted to nominate Giacinta Bradley Koontz for the DAR History Award Medal. Clearly, Ms. Koontz has contributed to the greater understanding of American history through her activities; therefore, this National Officer takes great pleasure in granting permission to award the DAR History Award Medal to Ms. Koontz,” says Margaret Drummond MacKenzie, Historian General, NSDAR.
Standard Aero completes integration of MRO facilities
Standard Aero has completed the integration of the legacy Landmark Aviation maintenance facilities and launched a new corporate identity, signifying that the combined companies are now operating as one unified entity with more than 4,000 employees in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia and $1.4 billion a year in sales.
The new Standard Aero — the five legacy Landmark Aviation maintenance facilities and the seven legacy Standard Aero facilities combined — was created when Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) purchased Standard Aero and Landmark Aviation from the Carlyle Group in July 2007, creating an MRO organization with expertise across numerous aviation sectors and business relationships in the United States and around the world. (DAE sold the FBOs and the Landmark name to GTCR, Encore FBO and Platform Partners in a transaction that closed at the end of February 2008.)
“Less than nine months after the purchase, the integration of all 12 MRO facilities is complete and we are launching the new Standard Aero, a company with deep MRO experience and exceptional relationships across the aviation industry that is well-positioned to take advantage of growth opportunities here and abroad,” says Standard Aero President and CEO Paul Soubry. “Standard Aero has a strategic, long-term focus with an experienced industry management team. We are fostering a cohesive, aligned organization through a common culture, enabling and empowering our businesses to build on a reputation for quality and customer service.”
Standard Aero is a global company with five broad markets: business aviation, airlines, helicopters and energy, military, and VIP transport interior completion, represented by Dallas-based Associated Air Center.
As part of the launch, the company is introducing a new corporate identity, which signifies the bigger and better Standard Aero. The new image expresses the leadership of Standard Aero throughout the aviation MRO marketplace.

Piper and Avantext sign exclusive publication agreement
Avantext Inc. has signed an exclusive agreement with Piper Aircraft Inc. to publish all maintenance manuals and other related service documentation in an electronic format, as they move toward new technology to address greater demand for electronic data over the distribution of both paper and microfiche products.
Kurt Schoenkopf, president of Avantext, says, “We are delighted to take our relationship to the next level with Piper. We are looking forward to supporting all of Piper’s needs and to expand our offerings to include web-based availability of documentation.
“Avantext will bring state-of-the-art technology along with unrivaled customer service to support all of Piper’s constituents,” he adds.
CRS Jet Spares acquires Premier inventory
CRS Jet Spares announces additional support for Premier airframes. CRS has recently parted out a Premier aircraft providing component and structural items to have available for Premier operators. The inventory includes many key items such as: Collins displays, computers, pumps, leading edges, actuators, oxygen masks, inverters, seats, and more.
“The parting out of an airframe is laborious and technical, but over the years, we have improved through experience,” says CRS CEO Armando Leighton Jr. “We believe that the opportunity to explore and penetrate the Premier aftermarket support arena was right.”
In other news, CRS announces it is now an Avox-Eros stocking, sales, and distribution facility. CRS’ affiliation with Avox-Eros will provide operators with a wide range of oxygen units. Its inventory will include smoke goggles, stowage boxes, cylinder assemblies, and other Eros accessories in stock to meet customers’ requirements.
GE opens NDT display
GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies has opened a customer display area at GE Aviation’s Customer Technical Education Center (CTEC) in Cincinnati, OH. CTEC is GE Aviation’s state-of-the-art training facility, with a full-time staff of instructors who provide engine maintenance training for customer personnel.
Customers visiting CTEC will have the ability to see GE’s inspection equipment applied to aircraft engine inspections.
