Dia taps solar energy
Denver International Airport (DIA) has installed a two megawatt solar energy system which generates more than three million kilowatts of electricity annually. Spanning seven and a half acres, the array is the most visible solar energy system in the U.S.
More than 9,200 Sharp solar panels accompany ground-mounted photovoltaic solar arrays. The arrays track the sun with a single-axis system. The system was designed and installed by Worldwater & Solar Technologies.
The system was financed by MMA Renewable Ventures; a public-private partnership between MMA, Denver International, and Worldwater was created to leverage tax credits and incentives and help fund the project.
DIA says the project illustrates how sustainable development can work as an integral operating principle while the airport maintains a successful and profitable business.
General aviation pilots can now conveniently carry instrument approach charts in electronic form. Reader Plates allow an instrument-rated private pilot to easily have at hand every FAA/NACO arrival, departure, and approach chart for every airport in the U.S.
Reader Plates LLC has specifically formatted the downloadable reader plates for ease of use on the Sony PRS-505 electronic book reader. Subscriptions for Reader Plates are available for $9.99 per month; the electronic book reader is priced at $299.
