¦ Hydrogen Engine Center Inc. announced a series of steps to expand advanced technology development while simultaneously accelerating the delivery of alternative energy solutions to the global market. In order to take advantage of the pricing and supply concerns of oil-based energy markets, the company has devised a four-point strategic plan, including licensing and increased utilization of power solutions.
¦ AccelRate Power Systems, the technology leader in “high-speed” battery chargers, announced it has completed the non-brokered private placement of 1,292,113 units, realizing gross proceeds of $232,580. Each unit comprises one common share and one-half warrant, each whole warrant exercisable to purchase one additional common share in the capital of the company at $0.22 until Nov. 20, 2008. All shares issued in connection with the private placement and any shares issued on exercise of warrants comprised in those units will be subject to a four-month hold period expiring March 20, 2008. Proceeds from the placement will be used as working capital for the operation of the company’s business, to develop new products and to continue its sales and marketing efforts.
¦ UFIS Airport Solutions announced the role that their UFIS® software suite played in the preparation for the departure of the A380 from Singapore. UFIS® was used by Singapore Airport Terminal Services, the main ground handler at Changi International Airport, to make sure the right personnel was in place for check-in, baggage loading, fueling and servicing the plane. The Civil Aviation Authorities of Singapore used the location management features of UFIS® to make sure that the correct number of check-in counters were assigned to the flight and a parking stand big enough to handle the super-sized A380 was reserved and available for this historic flight. UFIS® Status Manager module, providing a graphical overview of the statuses, was used to make sure each service was completed in time for an on-time departure. The UFIS® software was optimized two years ago to handle the A380.
¦ DHL is partnering with local communities in New York and Southern California to deliver live holiday trees and decorations to US troops stationed in the Middle East through its annual Trees for Troops charitable program. Since 2004, the program has collected and shipped thousands of holiday trees, lights, ornaments, menorahs and messages of support to the brave men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
¦ FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Express are now utilizing new air-cargo container technology from AmSafe® for their temperature-controlled shipping services. The AcuTemp® RKN, brought to the air-cargo market through AmSafe, uses compressor technology instead of dry ice to keep the inside of the container at the desired shipping temperature. The container’s battery can last for more than 100 hours for safe shipping around the globe. The battery can also be plugged in for easy recharging throughout the life of the shipment. Using its suite of Temp-Assure Air services, FedEx Custom Critical offers US and international air solutions to safely ship temperature-sensitive products — from pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to high-end electronics.
