Shell Aviation and Liquip International designed a versatile yet robust refueler to support fueling operations at Vancouver International and Abbotsford Airport during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

NAV CANADA Deploys WAM
In order to enhance the safety of helicopter and aircraft traffic for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Canada’s civil air navigation services provider, NAV CANADA, deployed Sensis Corporation’s Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) surveillance system in the “sea-to-sky” airport flight corridor between Vancouver and Pemberton Regional Airport in British Columbia.

The air flight corridor between Vancouver, the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and Pemberton did not have low-altitude radar coverage for helicopter traffic. As the main mode of air transportation in that area, helicopter traffic was expected to increase leading up to the Winter games. With Sensis WAM, air traffic controllers are capable of continual, accurate surveillance of helicopters flying below 1,000 feet, according to a press release.

With its advanced processing techniques, a Sensis multilateration system uses the minimal number of sensors for a less complex, lower lifecycle cost solution. Additionally, each multilateration sensor deployed by Sensis supports Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B), a technology deployed by NAV CANADA to provide accurate coverage for en route surveillance; www.sensis.com.
