Boise Airport Expands TSA Checkpoint

Aug. 26, 2019

2019 is projected to be the busiest year ever at the Boise Airport, with annual forecasts predicting over four million passengers travelling through BOI. To accommodate the record number of passengers, the Boise Airport has added an additional lane in the security checkpoint. This will bring the total lanes to six, increasing passenger throughput by twenty-percent during peak periods.

“In the past five years, passenger traffic has increased by 50 percent”, said Airport Director Rebecca Hupp. “We constantly hear from passengers how much they appreciate the short lines at the security checkpoint and the professionalism of the TSA Officers. By adding a sixth lane, we can ensure that passenger experience at the security checkpoint remains positive as the airport continues to grow.”

The need for the additional lane is the result of significant passenger growth during the morning hours, when a quarter of the daily departures occur. Airlines have also increased aircraft size to keep up with the demand of the traveling public.

“TSA is proud to be a part of the ongoing growth and expansion of the Boise Airport,” said Andrew Coose, TSA Federal Security Director for Idaho. “As the Treasure Valley continues to grow, our infrastructure must expand with it. This sixth lane for passenger screening at Boise will help meet our goal of minimizing delays during peak travel periods and ensuring smooth sailing for air travelers whenever they fly.”

The new lane will initially operate during peak morning periods, between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. when checkpoint lines are at their longest.
