Detroit Metropolitan and Willow Run Airports Reach Out to Construction Industry Contractors Seeking Work

Dec. 5, 2016

The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), which operates Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) and Willow Run (YIP) airports, will continue its efforts to expand contracting opportunities for businesses by hosting a Construction Industry Day. The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 8, at the Wayne County Community College District – Downriver Campus.

Prime contractors, subcontractors and suppliers will spend the day networking and learning about the WCAA procurement process, prime and subcontracting opportunities, disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) and small business enterprise (SBE) certification, the Airport Authority’s five-year capital improvement plan and more. Prime contractors— Adamo Demolition, Ajax Paving, Angelo Iafrate Construction, Barton Malow, Blaze Contracting, Dan’s Excavating, Interstate Highway Construction, Nora Contracting, Roncelli and Walbridge—will be available to discuss matchmaking opportunities.

“For several months, our Procurement Department has focused on enhancing our programs to help more small- and minority-owned businesses secure contracts for work at our airports,” said Airport Authority Interim CEO Joseph Nardone. “One key aspect of our targeted business programs is increasing our outreach to businesses across Michigan and educating more owners about our streamlined SBE certification processes. The upcoming Construction Industry Day is an example of our plan in action.”

WCAA partners, including the Michigan Department of Transportation, Small Business Administration, Schoolcraft College Procurement Technical Assistance Center and Wayne County Human Relations, will be on hand to answer questions and provide resources to attendees.

During Construction Industry Day, continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Anyone interested in participating must RSVP by calling (734) 462-4438 no later than Dec. 6.
