Cathay Pacific Posts Huge Profit Drop In 2011

Attributable profit down 60.8 percent from the record 1.404 billion HK dollars in 2010

Hong Kong-based flagship airline Cathay Pacific said Wednesday that its attributable profit in 2011 stood at 5,501 million HK dollars (709 million U.S. dollars), down 60.8 percent from the record 1.404 billion HK dollars in 2010, Xinhua News Agency reported. The airline said its 2010 results included 3,033 million HK dollars of significant non-recurring items being the profit on the sales of its shareholdings in Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited and the gain on the deemed disposal of part of its interest in Air China. Adjusting for these items, the attributable profit in 2011 decreased by 5,514 million HK dollars or 50.1 percent from 2010, it said in a statement filed to the Hong Kong stock market, the news agency reported.
