Every year the Alaska Airmen’s Association raffles off a new or refurbished aircraft to one lucky winner as a primary means of financing their aviation advocacy mission. This year’s raffle plane is scheduled to be awarded at the 2020 Alaska Airmen’s Association’s Great Alaskan Aviation Gathering.

The raffle plane is nearing completion of construction at Above Alaska Aviation, based in Talkeetna, Alaska. The 1955 Cessna 180 they are refurbishing is being outfitted with some amazing modifications designed to improve lift and thrust, while retaining full FAA certification. Extended wings, leading edge cuffs, and vortex generators will provide maximum slow flight lift, while a 300+hp O-520 engine turns the only 86” 3 bladed prop to be certified on a Cessna 180. A litany of modifications are being installed to modernize a relic work horse of yesteryear; including a full glass instrument panel, LED lighting throughout, extended baggage, titanium landing gear, electronic ignition, and so much more.
