LOS ANGELES (November 1, 2016)—Jet Edge International, a leading large-cabin private jet management and charter operator, successfully completed the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Stage 3 audit, one of the most rigorous safety audits in the private aviation industry. With this recognition, Jet Edge is among only a few operators globally to achieve all four prestigious safety ratings including Aviation Research Group (ARGUS) Platinum, Wyvern Wingman recognition, and its Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) positions.

IS-BAO’s audit focuses on qualifying an operation’s flight and operational safety procedures and verifying that a robust Safety Management System (SMS) is in place to mitigate risks of all types. As a key part of Stage 3 validation, a company’s culture of safety is evaluated on whether it is consistently improving and extends throughout all facets of the operation.

“Our executive management team decided from day one that we were going to go beyond upholding the highest aviation operations safety standards and establish ourselves as pioneers and leaders in the industry,” said Geoff Makely, executive vice president of charter management, Jet Edge International. “Achieving IS-BAO Stage 3 certification validates the significant investment we have made in the safety of our passengers, aircraft owners and employees.”

Jet Edge has gained significant industry praise in recent years due to the company’s consistent pursuit and implementation of various airline-level safety programs and procedures, each of which contributed to the recent successful audit. Included in this effort are the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), which enables voluntary non-punitive reporting to identify and mitigate risk, and the Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) program, which utilizes post-flight data analysis to identify training initiatives. Jet Edge was the first west coast-based private jet charter operator and one of the first FAR Part 135 operators to integrate this program into their operations.

Industry-veteran Cary Aquila leads Jet Edge’s safety program and initiatives, bringing nearly 40 years of military and private aviation operations and management experience and aviation maintenance leadership to his position as senior vice president. Joining Mr. Aquila in developing and promoting Jet Edge’s safety initiatives is John Sell, senior vice president of flight operations, and a former director of flight operations for fractional provider FlexJet.

“I was aware of Jet Edge’s clear commitment to flight crew and passenger safety which runs through every aspect of its operation prior to joining the company,” said Sell. “I’m excited about expanding our time-tested formula for aviation safety as we grow.”
