Mineta San José International Airport and San José Fire Department Break Ground on a New Fire Station

Sept. 21, 2020

The city of San José, San José Fire Department and Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) announced the groundbreaking of the new Fire Station 20 at SJC. Fire Station 20 will be relocated to the west side of the Airport on Coleman Avenue, just north of Airport Boulevard.

This facility replaces the existing Station 20, which has served the Airport for nearly 60 years. With traffic at SJC reaching a new record of 15.7 million passengers in 2019, the new and enhanced Station 20 will continue to ensure the safety of the Airport, its passengers and surrounding community for generations to come.

Major development in North San José has also increased the need for firefighting coverage in this area of the city. The new Station 20 will provide the Airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) operations, as it has for many years. Additionally, the new Station 20 will include a dedicated bay to access and serve the airport’s neighboring community including residents and businesses.

To protect the community from pandemic risks, the city will memorialize this event virtually, featuring video messages from key public leaders and project stakeholders.
