Fairbanks International Airport Operations Superintendent Melissa Osborn Named Representative to AAAE Board of Examiners

The Northwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives announced Oct. 29, that Fairbanks International Airport Operations Superintendent, Melissa Osborn, A.A.E. has been named as the Chapter’s representative to the American Association of Airport Executives Board of Examiners. Osborn, with industry professionals across the nation, will ensure the integrity, continued development and advancement of the AAAE’s prestigious Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E) program.

“I am so very excited for this opportunity, having an Alaskan on this board is advantageous for additional industry perspective from a state that relies so heavily on their airports," said Fairbanks International Airport Operations Superintendent, Melissa Osborn. "It’s beneficial for the State of Alaska to have a regional examiner based locally when additional career development opportunities arise."

Osborn was born in Fairbanks and raised in North Pole. She graduated from University of Alaska Fairbanks with an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree. She has been working at the Fairbanks International Airport for more than 20 years and with FAI for 12 years. She holds both airline and airport experience to include her roles as a load planner for Alaska Airlines, Lufthansa, and Cargolux, an airport operations officer, a Regional Airport Safety and Security Officer for Northern Region of Alaska, and her current role as an Airport Operations Superintendent.

“Melissa’s expertise and commitment to the airport management industry is reflected in her new position. Being the largest airport operator in the nation, it’s important that airport leaders in the State of Alaska contribute to the advancement of this industry, both in-state and in the nation.” said Airport Manager, Angie Spear.

Osborn recently founded the Aviation Explorer Post 747, encouraging youth, ages 14 to 20, to explore careers in aviation.
