With extensive experience in airfield design, aviation construction and program management, Joe Grubbs has joined HDR to lead the firm’s aviation technical practice. Based in Pittsburgh, he will help expand the firm’s aviation service offerings, geographically, and by developing teams of specialists in high-demand aviation services.

After nearly three decades in the industry, Grubbs has earned a reputation for technical leadership in airport and airfield development. He’s a nationally recognized expert in geometric and pavement evaluation, concrete and bituminous pavement design and rehabilitation, drainage design, construction inspection, and deicing collection system design.

“HDR’s technical excellence and customer-centric approach will drive the growth of our aviation services capabilities in this highly competitive environment,” Grubbs said. “Known for our ability to work across our full service A/E consulting practice, we will continue to create and deliver innovations that help solve our clients’ future needs and improve the aviation customers’ experience.”

His project experience includes runways, airfield apron and taxiway pavements, roadway pavements, drainage systems and airfield electrical lighting systems. During the past 10 years, he led three military airfield projects, together worth more than $90 million in construction, and more than 10 commercial airfield projects worth a combined $880 million in construction.

"Joe’s experience and industry knowledge make him a great addition,” said HDR Aviation Director Bill Peduzzi. “We’re excited about what his arrival will mean for our clients and the continued development of our technical delivery practice.”
