When Jennifer Hanrahan landed a college internship, she didn’t know at the time it would influence a career in airports.

AirTran was starting service to Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) and Hanrahan assisted in the events and marketing for the new service. She graduated college and her internship landed a recommendation for a position at the airport.

“I love people, I love working with the public, I love working with all the different airlines and carriers and concessionaires and vendors that we have at the airport,” she said. “We’re a small hub, so we’re kind of a family airport. We really do have a lot of familiar faces and a lot of folks who have worked there for like 30 years plus.”

As assistant director and marketing and communications for ROC, Hanrahan has been very active in promoting the airport within the community.

Since Hanrahan took her position, ROC has increased advertising revenue by 30 percent while working with airlines to promote new flight services to the Rochester, N.Y. region and leading the airport through a rebranding effort.

She also created a targeted marketing program in the community, focusing on professional sporting venues.

Hanrahan is an active member of industry organizations and efforts, such as Visitor Industry Council, NYC Presence Committee, Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) and other numerous school/community outreach initiatives.

She also led ROC’s efforts to improve services for the hearing impaired by working with the Hearing Loss Association of America and created the “ROC Your Flight” program with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Arc of Monroe to assist families with special travel needs.

Hanrahan oversaw airport involvement in 48 Honor Flight Rochester missions and executed a $300,000 marketing campaign to expand its reach.

She also self-studied and successfully completed the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) professional development Certified Member (C.M.) program.
